The Electronics Division of BHEL where the Photovoltaic modules are manufactured has been involved in the design and manufacture of sophisticated electronics and power semiconductors since 1978. Based on this expertise, BHEL commenced manufacturing of Solar Photovoltaic cells and modules from 1983. The Solar Cells and Solar PV Modules are manufactured in the State of the Art manufacturing line at Bangalore.

BHEL offers in its PV product range, 156 mm pseudo square high efficiency Mono/Multi-crystalline solar cells. 156mm cells have become the solar cell component of choice for PV module manufacturers around the world.

- Higher power Solar Cells result in lower Module cost per watt. 100% performance testing of Cells.

3. Photovoltaic Systems |
| The SPV systems are specifically designed keeping in mind the necessity for unattended operation and ease of maintenance. BHEL has been successful in establishing SPV power plants on total turnkey basis at quite remote locations such as the Lakshadweep Islands, Sunderban area of West Bengal, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, etc. BHEL has more than 25 years of experience in designing as well as installation and commissioning of PV systems. |
BHEL offerings in the Photovoltaic Systems includes:
- Detailed survey and study of sites and SPV plant requirements.
- Conceptualizing of engineering requirements and detailing for projects.
- Preparation and issue of design outputs to project sites such as drawings, BOM, Product QAP, FQP etc.
- Coordinating with customer’s quality services group for quality assurance management of the project and products.
- Monitoring and controlling the Erection and commissioning of SPV projects.
- Managing project handing over and running of O&M or AMC related activities of projects in association with customers.
- Monitoring and evaluation of commissioned projects
- Conducting PG test.
- Carrying out O&M activities.

Photovoltaic group consists of engineers with varied back ground in Electronics Engg., Electrical Engg. Mechanical Engg. and Civil Engg. to execute project related works, backed up by assistance from Corporate R&D group of BHEL at Hyderabad and help of technical institutions and bodies such as IISc., IITs, reputed Engineering institutes or consultants for addressing specific technical challenges during project execution. The group has acquired expertise in project management, scheduling and meeting Customer commitments.
